Carino Natural

What is it? Where does it occur? The toxicity of plastic on the human body. The effects of plastics on the environment. How climate change is changing because of plastic. Recycling

What is plastic?

[1] They are divided into natural, artificial, and synthetic. Natural - of plant, animal, and mineral origin; artificial - obtaining by the processing of natural macromolecular compounds; synthetic - obtained by synthesis of low molecular weight substances. [2]

[3] which introduces the term "plastic" [4] The word plastic comes from the Greek πλαστικός (plastikos), which means "able to form or shape", and in turn from πλαστός (plastos), which means "molded".[5] As a noun, thoughts most often refer to solid products in the production of petrochemical products. [6]

Where there is plastic?

Toxicity of plastics.

Pure plastics have low toxicity due to their insolubility in water, and because they have a high molecular weight, they are biochemically inert. However, plastic products contain various additives, some of which can be toxic.[7] Traces of these compounds may leak from the product. Due to concerns about the effects of such leaching, the EU has restricted the use of DEHP (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate) and other phthalates in some applications, and the United States has restricted the use of DEHP, DPB, BBP, DINP, DIDP, and DnOP in toys and child care items through the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. Some compounds derived from polystyrene food containers are thought to interfere with hormonal functions and are thought to be human carcinogens (cancer-causing substances).[8] Other chemicals of potential concern include alkylphenols.[13] The International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization (IARC) has recognized vinyl chloride, the precursor to PVC, as a human carcinogen.[8]

Effects on the environment.

[15] Others estimate total human production at 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic, of which 6.3 billion tonnes is waste, with only 9% being recycled.[16] The presence of plastics, especially microplastics, in the food chain is increasing. In the 1960s, microplastics were observed in the intestines of seabirds and have since been found in increasing concentrations.[17]

The climate

According to a report, plastics have released greenhouse gases equivalent to 850 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere in 2019. Emissions could rise to 1.34 billion tonnes by 2030. By 2050, plastics could emit 56 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, up to 14% of the Earth's remaining carbon budget.[18] Ефектът на пластмасата върху глобалното затопляне е смесен.

Burning of plastics

Recycling

Plastic recycling is the processing of plastic waste into new and useful products. Properly implemented, this can reduce landfill dependence, conserve resources and protect the environment from plastic pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.[20][21][22][23] Although recycling rates are increasing, they are lagging behind those of other renewable materials, such as aluminum, glass, and paper. The global recycling rate in 2015 was 19.5%, while 25.5% was burned and the remaining 55% was landfilled.[24] Since the beginning of plastic production in the 20th century, until 2015, the world has produced about 6.3 billion tons of plastic waste, only 9% of which has been recycled, and only ~ 1% has been recycled more than once.[24]
